Is this sport safe?

Safety is a relative term, which for some means danger, for others it is fun. It is no different in skydiving.

Ako mnohí vravia „Safety first“.

How to do it safe

The first most important element is the parachutist himself. People often overestimate themselves, like to show themselves in front of others, and that is when they become dangerous to their surroundings.

Another element is the readiness of the individual. Every paragan must know the drop zone on which he jumps, the plane and the kind of jump from it, the people he is going to jump with and most important of all the parachute he is wearing.

Even the most experienced will tell you that accidents are a grouping of several dangerous activities during a jump.

Of course, preparing for the jump is a separate chapter. Many paratroopers underestimate it and claim that they do not need training on the ground, and it is these people who ask you about various details of the jump during the climb to the altitude.

Personally, I put all my things in one pile in front of me and start checking individual things.

  • Zapnem AAD (automatic activation device)
  • my eyes check the whole parachute from top to bottom, looking for micro cracks on the fabric and also on the metal parts of the harness
  • inspection of the main and backup closing pin and closing loop
  • control of all three releases. Condition, place of storage, wear and tear of the foreheads
  • Check the knife
  • Check the helmet and or googles
  • zapnem a nakalibrujem si zvukový výškomer a
  • následne ho správne uložím do helmy
  • I'm calibrating my analog altimeter
  • I will make sure of the direction, wind force and other weather conditions

Po oblečení kombinézy a nasadení padáku, výškomeru a rukavíc vykonám kontrolu „Troch“.

There are three straps on the parachute, so I see if I'm properly tightened and if they are properly stored in the cases.
My eyes look at the three-ring discard system.
I touch all three releases and watch to see if they are in the right place and that they are properly secured.

After the so-called gear-up, I will find people on the drop zone with whom I am going to jump.

We will go through the following things with them:

  • Type of the jump
  • ewerybody position on the exit
  • We performe so called dirt-jump
  • We will agree on the height and course of the breakup
  • We check types of parashutes of each of us

K lietadlu nechoďte nikdy z predu a k vrtuľníku naopak zo zadu. Do lietadla nastupujem vždy plne ustrojený.

Of course, the jump ends with the folding of the parachute in the hangar, so you need to be careful when moving in the sky. Each drop zone has its own regulations, so it is important to be informed about the patterns of flying and landing at the airport.

To be continued...

I will regularly add new articles to the topic of security, this was just an introduction and my point of view. For information on security issues, always consult the official portals such as www.pksna.sk and with people who are instructors or inspectors.
